Error / Status | 406 - Package Validation Failed

Updated at October 27th, 2026

Affected Products

Hardware Model/Series
Server Core X50r (units with updated SATA SSD storage).
Software
QDS v10.5.1 and later.

Message

When you try to downgrade firmware on a Server Core X50r with updated SATA SSD storage, the message "406 - Package Validation Failed" appears.

Definition | Causes

This is expected behavior. Server Core X50r units with updated SATA SSD storage require v10.5.1 or later. The downgrade is blocked to protect the Core, so the error does not mean the firmware package is corrupt or the Core is faulty.

The 406 error appears when you downgrade to a version earlier than v10.4.1. Those versions don't have the minimum firmware version check, so firmware package validation fails with a generic error. Downgrading to v10.4.1 or v10.5.0 displays an unsupported hardware message instead.

There is no visible difference between Server Core X50r units with the original NVMe SSD and units with the updated SATA SSD storage.

Solution | Workaround

Keep Server Core X50r units with updated SATA SSD storage on v10.5.1 or later.
