How To | Find missing Core in Q-SYS Configurator
Learn steps to locate and add a missing core to your Q-SYS Configurator setup.
Procedure
There are several possible reasons, so additional tests are needed to narrow down where the problem lies:
- Connect the PC directly to the Core, making sure the PC and the Core have IPs in the same range.
- If set for auto-DHCP it should generate a 169.254.x.x address.
- Open Configurator within Designer.
- Does the Core appear?
Then the issue is likely network-related, such as a bad cable OR a switch configuration issue, such as a multicast configuration preventing discovery packets from reaching the PC.
- Check that the PC's firewall settings allow Q-SYS Designer to communicate properly.
PC Firewall Settings for Q-SYS
If you are using a third-party firewall, make sure Designer is given full access to the network.
If you are using Windows Defender Firewall, do the following:
- Delete the Hard Link previously created above.
- Go to the Windows firewall "Advanced Settings" page and select the "Inbound Rules".
- Find entries for Designer and delete them.
- Close all instances of Designer and then run a copy of each installed version.
- During the start-up process, a firewall message will appear. Make sure that all options are selected before you click "Allow".
- Configurator should now discover the Core.
- If you know the Core's IP, add a Hard Link (under File > Preferences).
- When added, a little icon appears next to the IP address. If that is green, that means the Core is online.
If you do not know the Core's IP address, it may be necessary to first factory reset the unit to return the network setting to automatic DHCP.
