Awareness | NV-21-HU Firmware Downgrade Restriction - i226 Network Controller

Learn about the NV-21-HU Network Controller i226 revision and how it affects firmware compatibility.

Updated at August 26th, 2026

Information

Newer NV-21-HU units use Intel i226 network, replacing the i225 in older units. These newer units must not be downgraded below Q-SYS firmware version 9.10. Doing so may cause driver incompatibility that prevents the unit from starting correctly. Recovery procedures may be unsuccessful.

How to Identify Affected Units

Check the serial number on the product label [14TW2427XXXXXX]. The date code is embedded in the serial number. Units with date code 2427 or later have the i226 controller.

For help reading the serial number, see FAQ | How do I determine warranty eligibility?, the Serial Numbers with Various MFG Date Code Formats section.

Downgrade Path

Date Code Network Controller Minimum Firmware Action
Before 2427 Intel i225 No Restriction Downgrade nomally
2427 or later Intel i226 9.10 Do Not downgrade below 9.10

Note

  • Q-SYS firmware 9.12 and later will automatically block unsupported downgrades on i226 hardware.
  • If a unit is already running 9.12.+, no manual verification is needed. The block is in place.
  • NV-21-HU units with the i226 network controller may run Q-SYS firmware versions 9.10 and 9.11, but these versions do not include the downgrade protection introduced in 9.12. Do not attempt to downgrade the unit below 9.10.
