FAQ | What is the Grandmaster clock hierarchy: internal vs PTPv2 vs AES3 vs GPIO?
Learn how the Grandmaster clock hierarchy works, ranging from Internal to PTPv2, AES3, and GPIO.
Answer
If an external PTPv2 Grandmaster in a Q-SYS ecosystem has priority over the Q-SYS core processor, the core processor will sync to it instead of its internal clock or to GPIO, AES3, etc.
If the external Grandmaster leaves the ecosystem, the core processor will revert to its internal clock.
If the core processor is designated the PTPv2 Grandmaster, its internal clock will govern the network PTPv2 clock unless it receives a clock through GPIO, AES3, etc.
